SpinCon Spring 2024

In our opinion, neurodivergent “special interests” and “passions” are pretty awesome. We don’t get the chance to really show them off, though. Read below for more information!

WHAT IS SPINCON?

• SpinCon is an event where neurodivergent people can come and…

  • show off our special interests to other people who “get it”

  • celebrate our knowledge and expert status about a special interest

  • make some connections with other people

  • feel really, really good about ourselves

WHAT DOES NEURODIVERGENT MEAN? IS THAT ME?

• Neurodivergent is a big word that means my brain works differently than other people’s

  • I might need to be really passionate about something in order to learn about it

  • I might be more sensitive than others to things like noise, lights, crowded places, textures, smells, etc.

  • I might want to have friendships and romance, but have a really hard time making and keeping those relationships

  • I might need help with things like communication, organization, big feelings, understanding other people, etc.

• “Neurodivergent” is an umbrella word for things like…

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • Developmental Disabilities

  • Sensory Processing Disorder

  • and so much more

WHAT IS A SPECIAL INTEREST?

• A special interest is something that I’m REALLY passionate about or know a LOT about

• Some examples are:

  • Cars, trains, airplanes, transportation

  • Certain video games, types of TV shows, movies, music

  • Certain collectibles, toys, plushies

  • Animals, plants, the environment

  • and so many more! What are your interests and passions?

WHAT WILL SPINCON LOOK LIKE?

• Neurodivergent folks will have tables set up with examples of their special interests

• People will walk around looking at the tables and can talk about the interests if they want to

• Have you ever been to a comic con? or a craft fair? or a street fair? It looks like that!

WAYS I CAN ENJOY SPINCON: It’s your choice!

• I can sign up for a table to SHOW my special interests to others

• I can come to the event and just look around

• If I have a small business, like making t-shirts or crafts or artwork, I can sign up for a table to SELL my things!
